Frequently Asked Questions

Are pathology results interpreted differently in integrative medicine?

Yes. The reference ranges for interpreting results are different in integrative medicine. This is because integrative medicine not only treat pathology, it also aims to keep the body in balance, and to provide the body with a reserve, so that you have increased resilience when life throws stressors at you.

For this reason, it is important to specify to Dr Sun that you want an integrative medicine approach, as results are interpreted differently.

I have an urgent medical symptom. Can I have an earlier appointment?

If you have an urgent medical symptom, please contact your regular GP or local emergency department for treatment.

Integrative medicine is not appropriate for urgent medical symptoms, as the approaches used often takes time to take effect. In addition, as many investigations are needed to be sent to labs in the Eastern states/ USA, it can sometimes take weeks for results to become available.

How often do I need to be reviewed?

Your management plan will be discussed with you in your initial consultation.

Your second appointment will be used to discuss test results. As most tests are sent to the Eastern States, results may take 3-6 weeks.

You should arrange a follow up at 1-3 months to discuss your progress, so that your management plan can be maximised.

When well, it is important to have a follow up every 6-12 months as some supplements should not be taken long term without medical supervision.

It is also sometimes beneficial to repeat some investigations 4-6 months after treatment to assess progress.

Dr Sun aims to educate you about the supplements prescribed so that in time, your appointments can be kept to a minimum as needed basis.

Can I combine an Integrative medicine consultation with a non Integrative medicine consultation?

No. Integrative medicine is such a comprehensive complex area of medicine that it usually takes a whole long appointment in itself. Please make separate appointments if you have other medical problems you would like to discuss.

Integrative medicine reviews cannot be combined with a medical care plan review.  There is simply not enough time to do both in the one consultation. Our receptionists would be happy to help you make two separate appointments.

Will I benefit from seeing a nutritionist as well?

Integrative medicine believes that your diet plays an major role in your general health and well being. Once a diagnosis has been made, if specific dietary requirements are necessary, it can sometimes be beneficial for Dr Sun to refer you to nutritionists she works closely with. Due to time constraints in general practice, the nutritionist will be able to spend more time working with you to help you integrate these dietary changes into your particular lifestyle. This way, Dr Sun can spend more time focusing on the medical side of your management plan.
